Splitting Mode

SAMLight supports five splitting modes. The following subchapters provide an overview of the parameters available for each mode. For an explanation of each parameter, see the Splitting Settings chapter.

Rotational marking (Angular Splitting mode) requires the following steps:

1.Enabling external motion control to perform the automatic rotation of the round object to be marked.

2.Definition of the object diameter.

3.Definition of the rotational angle describing the segment to be marked at the same time.

4.Definition of the motion controller axis to be used for the rotation movement. This axis only defines the drive used for the motion; it does not affect the axis the job is split for.

5.Activation of the splitting mode to enable the current job for rotational marking.

 

Planar marking (Planar Splitting modes) requires the following steps:

1.Enabling external motion control to perform the automatic movement of the flat object to be marked.

2.Definition of the size of the split part to be marked at the same time.

3.Definition of the motion controller axis to be used for the planar movement. This axis only defines the drive used for the motion; it does not affect the axis the job is split for.

4.Activation of the splitting mode to enable the current job for marking part by part.

 

Mark on the Fly of split parts requires the following steps:

1.A SAMLight software license with the Mark on Fly feature.

2.Definition of the size of one split part to be marked on the fly.

3.Activation of the splitting mode to enable the current job for marking part by part.

 

The Motion Control, required for Angular and Planar Splitting, can be activated under Menu Bar → Settings → System → Extras → Motion Control. Additionally, the motion control configuration file has to be configured for the controller in use, as described in the Motion Control chapter.

If all Rotation Axis or Motion Axis radio buttons are disabled, this indicates a misconfiguration of the motion controller, and the application will be unable to perform the correct rotational or planar movements.

 

Activation of the splitting modes is done via Extras → Splitting → Split current, or by using the corresponding icons in the Extras Toolbar. Turning off the mode is done by clicking the same menu button again, which restores the job to non-split mode.

When a job has been split successfully, its appearance in the View 2D changes: several additional lines now appear. These are the cutting edges, created according to the values of Total Diameter and Splitting Angle (in Angular mode) or Splitting Size (in Planar mode). These splitting lines can be adjusted to optimize the result.

Moving a splitting line required clicking it to select it, then entering object level 2 using the Level Toolbar, which allows selection of an individual splitting line. Dragging the small blue box on the line in the desired direction moves it. This works the same way as with normal geometries, with one exception: splitting lines cannot be rotated or scaled.

If a splitting line is moved beyond one of its neighboring cutting lines, it is automatically forced back to a position between its two neighbors. Interleaving the cuts represented by these lines is not a valid operation. Any parts of the job located outside the outermost cutting lines after editing will not be marked.

 
After a cutting line is dragged to a new position, the split job is recalculated automatically. This may take a few seconds, depending on the complexity of the job. Marking such a job works as before: all split parts are marked one by one until the job is complete. Editing the cutting lines resets the current marking position, so the next marking operation starts with the job's first segment.

The Split Preview shows a preview of all created split parts.

To achieve the correct marking result, it is essential that the motor axes correspond to the axes of the split job. Normally, both should form a right-handed coordinate system.
