Flash jobs (*.unf) need to be re-created if changes are required or a new SAMLight version is installed.

note

If multiple cards with different SAMLight settings files are used, it must be ensured that the correct SAMLight settings file for the respective card is used while modifying its jobs. 'Check Dongle ID in USC Server' can help with that task.

Modify Jobs:

To modify the jobs, you can follow these steps:

1.Connect the card to your PC

2.Use the created backup file to load the settings which are used for the card onto your PC

3.If the SAMLight and Firmware versions are different between card and PC, please install the SAMLight version which was used to store the settings on the card on the PC

4.Open SAMLight and load the *.sjf file created during the initial setup.

5.Modify the job according to your needs

6.Upload the modified job onto your card using the Extras -> Flash dialog.

7.(Optional: Create a copy of the SAMLight settings that where just used, located in <SCAPS>\system folder (The default name is sc_light_settings.sam.) as a backup together with the *.sjf file of the job or generate a backup.zip via SAMLight - Help - 'Generate Backup.zip'.)

Afterwards, you can disconnect the card from the PC, re-power the card and mark your job using Flash.

warning

Make sure you are not using different settings on your PC compared to the time you first uploaded the job. This can cause a variety of errors.

When in doubt, backup-settings from the system setup should be used to get back to the previous state.

Update System:

If the system needs to be updated, the following steps need to be taken:

1.Download and install the new version of SAMLight.

2.Connect the card to your PC.

3.Use the Button 'UpdateSystem' in the USC-server to update the firmware version if the server shows "New Firmware available". Reboot the USC-card afterwards.

4.Go to the Hardware Settings (via Settings - System - Optic) and press the 'Store' button to save the current settings which include the update on the card.

5.If there was a bugfix regarding a specific functionality, the following steps should be executed for all jobs containing the functionality:

a.Open SAMLight and load the *.sjf file created during the initial setup.

b.Optionally: Modify the job according to your needs.

c.Save the job.

d.Upload the job back onto your card using the Extras -> Flash dialog.

6.(Optional: Create a copy of the SAMLight settings that where just used, located in <SCAPS>\system folder (The default name is sc_light_settings.sam.) as a backup together with the *.sjf file of the job or generate a backup.zip via SAMLight - Help - 'Generate Backup.zip'.)

When having updated one PC, make sure to either update all PCs (and jobs) at the same time, or to reinstall the older version again before changing jobs on a system that does not need / does not have the new version. While settings files and jobs are compatible throughout all versions of SAMLight, new functionalities will be missing and might be crucial for the correct job execution.

Defect card / RMA:

If the card should be defect (does not boot any more, etc.), it can easily be replaced by a new card:

1.Connect the new card to your PC.

2.Use the Button 'UpdateSystem' in the USC-server to update the firmware version if the server shows "New Firmware available" or "Firmware newer than available". Reboot the USC-card afterwards.

3.Start SAMLight with the settings corresponding to the card to be replaced.

4.Go to the Hardware Settings (via Settings - System - Optic) and press the 'Store' button to save the settings on the card.

5.Load the *.sjf files and upload them to the card using the Extras -> Flash dialog. Alternatively, if there are a lot of jobs, the *.unf files including the sc_job_list.bin file from the backup.zip folder (Card0 - USC3Flash - jobs) can be uploaded to the card via FTP.

6.(Optional: If you want to make sure no old jobs (for example from quality control) are in the buffer, you can clear the job pool with the FCI command CJP.)

Afterwards, you can disconnect the card from the PC, re-power the card and mark your job using Flash.
