USB Connection
Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The following guides through the basic steps to test the USB connection.

Power supply of the USC card:

Power the card external via the 37-pin connector.

USC-1: Remove jumper 4 (JP4) next to the USB port.

USC-2: Remove jumper 2 (JP2) next to the USB port.

USB port of the PC:

Do not use USB3.0. Some drivers have problems with accurate USB2.0 compatibility.

Try to change to another USB2.0 port on the PC. Sometimes the port has a malfunction.

Use a direct connection between USB port of the PC and the USC card without any connectors in between. Do not use front side USB ports, hubs or extension cables.

Electrical noise of the USB connection:

Exchange the USB cable with a new one, as short as possible.

Use a shielded USB cable.

Decrease speed to USB1.1, slower, but more stable: Set ForceUSB11=1 in <SCAPS>\system\sc_usc.cfg

There are devices to reduce USB noise (filter or galvanic isolation).

Use an USB Filter.

If the USB connection does not work at all:

Windows device manager:

Check whether the USC card is detected in the operating system, like described in the topic USB driver. Normally the USC card is detected and installed when the card is connected for the first time.

Check the power management of the USB device in use: do not allow the computer to turn of this device to save power.

Check the USB drivers on your system. For further detail, see USB driver.

Visible sc_usc_server.exe:

Start sc_usc_server.exe in visible mode ( <SCAPS>\system\sc_usc_server.exe /v ) to see if the USC card is recognized.

Normal boot behaviour:

USC-1: After connecting the green LED starts to flash a few times and then stays constantly on. Now the card is ready. If the card is flashing very fast, an error occurred during the boot process. The blinking green LED indicates a correct power supply and a missing server connection. It also blinks if the USC card is not detected by the operating system. Please reboot the card.

USC-2/-3: After the connection the blue LED goes on and stays on, meaning the card is powered. The green LED starts to flash and then stays constantly on. When the green LED stays on, the card is ready. If the green LED keeps blinking, the start up failed. In this case, please reconnect the power and try again. (The boot process may take a bit longer for the USC-3 than for the USC-2.)

note

In case of problems with the firmware on the USC card, it could take quite some time (10min or longer) until the USC card is shown in the USC server. In such a case, please try Flash - InitFlash and wait.
