Laser Connection
Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

There are different ways to connect a laser source to the USC-1 card.

Each laser has its own needs regarding software configuration and hardware signals. Therefore always ask our support team for a recommendation for how to wire your laser.

Some connection manuals are available online.

In the case of open questions send us a request via info@scaps.com with your laser source manual attached.

The following is an overview of the common signals that are used to control a laser source. All of these signals are located on the DB37 Laser I/O, 37 Pin Connector.

Note that not all of this signals are required for each laser.

Signal

Pin

Comment

Opto_Out_0

3

Mark in Progress (MIP). 5-24V TTL.

Active Low per default. Can be inverted by software flag. [a]

Opto_Out_2

4

Red Pointer. 5-24V TTL.

Active Low per default. Can be inverted by software flag. [a]

Laser_Gate

31

Emission Enable. Active Low per default. Can be inverted by hardware jumper. 5V TTL.[b]

Laser_A

13

Modulation / Frequency.  Active Low per default. Can be inverted by hardware jumper. 5V TTL. [b]

Laser_B

12

First Pulse Killer / Modulation 2 / Frequency 2. Active Low per default. Can be inverted by hardware jumper. 5V TTL. [b]

8 Bit LP

16-19

34-37

Power Control via 8 Bit LP.

TTL at 5V.

DAC_A

10

Power Control via 0-10V analog voltage. [c]

DAC_B

29

Power Control via 0-10V analog voltage. [c]

Do not connect the following signals, since they are predefined:

•Opto_In_0: External start signal

•Opto_In_1: External stop signal

Table 3: Laser Connection Signals

[a]: All Opto_Out signals can be inverted by a software flag. Set the parameter InvertOptoOut to 1 within the file <SCAPS>\system\sc_usc.cfg.

[b]: Use JP3 to invert the Laser_Gate, Laser_A & Laser_B signal.

[c]: Use JP5 for DAC_A and JP6 for DAC_B to set the voltage limit to 2.5V or 5V or 10V.

If you are done with this step you can continue to connect the scan head.
